Here’s the quote: “He had no ambitions – and so had nothing to be jealous about. He had no reputation – and so had nothing to fight about. He had no possessions – and therefore had nothing to worry about. He had no “rights” – so therefore he could not suffer wrong. He was already broken – so no one could break him. He was “dead” – so none could kill him. He was less than the least of the least – so who could humble him? He had suffered the loss of all things – so who could defraud him? Does this throw any light on why the demon said, “Paul I know”? Over this God intoxicated man, hell suffered headaches.”
-Leonard Ravenhill, Why Revival Tarries
This was what Mario and I read in our book last night when it was talking about the apostle Paul and the verse in Acts 19:15.
I had a whole other idea today about this post. It was about circumstances not getting us down etc. but this quote had me thinking about identity and who I am, really. Because there are days I do fight, get jealous, worry, suffer, get broken, get humbled, get defrauded.
God wants us to live an abundant life, and I think it takes learning by those things listed above. This verse always stuns me in Hebrews 5:8, “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.”
Suffering has its seasons and varying degrees, but if we let God change us by pushing through our control issues and comfort techniques then we got a shot at learning. We’ve got more than a shot. We have a BLESSED ASSURANCE!
Happy Friday!
