On Tuesday night Bible study at our church, Refuge Christian Fellowship North County, we sometimes sing the song, “Lean On Me”. I looked up the original lyrics and history of the song and came across this information from Wikipedia:
“Withers’ childhood in the coal mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia, was the inspiration for “Lean on Me”, which he wrote after he had moved to Los Angeles and found himself missing the strong community ethic of his hometown.”
My friend, Tara, happens to be visiting from out of town for a few days, and it has reminded me that I have missed her being around since she’s moved out of state. It’s been so good to talk and laugh and connect.
Tara’s visit and that song reminded me that we need each other. Community exists to help with the good times and the bad and everything in between. I’m writing this post super late in the day (10:41pm to be exact – so it counts towards my blogging daily challenge) because I’ve been spending quality time with her.
So for this blog post I will put this out there: make that phone call, say yes to meeting up with that friend, open up and share your heart and hear their heart, and honor your friendship.
To all my friends out there, thank you for being truthful and loving. I pray I do the same for you. Thank you for your grace for me.
