Good morning! I don’t have much time to write today, but I wanted to continue with this blogging daily journey we are on together so here we go.
Yesterday Mario and I stopped at Sprouts grocery store near our house. It was right after work so it was pretty busy. The lines were long, but they were moving along. There was a man behind us that just had one six pack of Blue Moon beer. I was looking at the flowers right by our lane when I noticed the man just walked out with his six pack. Everyone around us just kind of stared, and we all looked at one another. There were plenty of employees around busy working and even one that was coming back from a break or something that walked right past him. Mario mentioned to one of the employees that a man just stole beer right then and the checker replied, “It happens all the time.”
We paid for our groceries and left the store still perplexed at what we had just seen. The man was in line. He intended to pay, I think. He may have just been fed up with lines in stores that day. I don’t know what his motive was and that bothered me, that I didn’t have the whole story. Of course it was wrong what this guy did. He lied. He cheated. He stole. There was just something about the way he walked out. He wasn’t running. It was almost like he dared someone to stop him.
Maybe that’s today’s theme…to find out why people do what they do. Ask them. Don’t just judge. That’s too easy, and we do it all the time. I know I’m guilty of it.
So last night Mario and I were reading the third chapter of our “Ministry Is…” book and we came across this quote written about the apostle Paul, “The hallmark of Paul’s experience with God can be summed up in one word – mercy. Someone has said that mercy is God’s ministry to the miserable. So it is.” -Charles Swindoll and Gary Matlack.
Mercy. We all need it, from God and each other.
