Labor Day Blog Post: HOPE

“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29

This blog post is to me. I need this today, but maybe you do to. Sometimes I worry if I won’t get there…you know “there”, the life that we were created to live. The life that makes everything count. The life I know is in deep down waiting to burst forth, to make my mark on this world. I don’t want my life to be for nothing – to be an example of someone who “almost” got it right. I want to be the good example of a life well lived despite the odds. I want God to look upon me with delight and say, “That’s my girl!” I don’t think I’m the only one. I know I’m not the only one. But sometimes I worry. Am I on the right track? Am I missing something? Should I be doing more? Should I be doing less?

Then yesterday at church we were in Judges 16 learning about Samson and Delilah, and Samson’s story is REAL. There’s so many people that just don’t live their potential. That terrifies me. So the message at church was huge to me yesterday because it was about God’s faithfulness even in Samson’s stupidity. Samson didn’t live to his potential, that’s for sure, but what did happen was the promise God kept about Samson’s calling until the day he died.

That’s the part I’ve got to remember – I don’t have to worry about what’s working against me, it’s WHO is working for me that matters. God is working in my life because He gave me that link to Him, that access to look to Him in the middle of life’s situations. Samson didn’t look to God and that was his problem, his downfall…and it can be our downfall.

God’s ready to blow our minds wide open with life like we’ve never seen. He’s ready to do more than we could ever ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). We can trust Him with this life that seems so random sometimes. He has a plan, and it will be done. And I want to be a part of His grand plan…in a good way. His way.

So, my friend, don’t turn back to old stuff, to old fears and worn out paths that you’ve already walked. Get on the new path, on this new day, with His new mercies. His calling on your life isn’t going anywhere. He loves us and is faithful – even when we’ve been faithless. Get ready, open your arms, look heavenward and say “YES, LORD!!!!”

With all my heart,

Sonia

P.S. To the people who’ve encouraged me to keep writing – thank you so much for being here and reading along with me.
